Judge Mathis is a former Detroit-area district court judge. He listens to diverse litigants plead small-claims cases in his TV courtroom. A regular segment, Ask Judge Mathis, features the judge answering viewer questions to advise people with legal situations that they face. Prior to entering the legal world, Mathis was involved with gangs and spent time in jail as a young man before turning his life around.

He started grinning in the beginning as soon as he looked over and saw she was wearing the shirt he bought her yesterday. he knew she couldnt deny that he had bought it for her and at that moment he knew he already won.
